Pupils and staff at Westlands School were extremely pleased with the excellent results our Year 11 pupils gained in 2019.
These are our strongest KS4 outcomes since the changeover to the new 9-1 specifications and demonstrate how hard working and dedicated our Year 11 cohort was.
As a sixth form, we continued to offer a joint provision for students in Sittingbourne, with courses delivered at Westlands School, The Sittingbourne School and Swale Skills Centre, under the guise of Swale Sixth Form.
Our sixth form results for 2019 were a significant improvement from the previous year. Over 90 academic subject examinations were sat in the summer with 13% achieving a B grade or higher and an overall average grade of C- for these qualifications. Progress at Post 16 is measured by Value Added and for academic subjects we achieved a score of -0.19 for 2019. This compares favourably with other local schools.
For the applied general subjects, we had 64 entries. Of these, 13% achieved a Distinction* grade and 30% a Distinction or higher. Our Value Added score for the applied general subjects was 0.01.
Our Engineering department also performed strongly in the technical qualifications, achieving an average grade of Distinction.
50% of our year 13 cohort were offered a place at university and were able to continue their educational journey on the back of successful results in the summer.
