2024 Key Stage 4 Results

Students and staff at Westlands School were extremely pleased with the excellent results our Year 11 pupils gained in 2025.

  • 57% of our students achieved a standard pass (grade 4), or higher, in both English and mathematics and 35% achieved a strong pass (grade 5), or higher, in both.

  • In English, 158 out of 316 students (50% of our cohort) achieved a 5 or above and 64% of students got 4 or above. Mathematics also performed well with 44% getting a 5 or above and 66% achieving at least a grade 4.

  • Progress 8 and Attainment 8 are the government’s performance measures brought in from 2017. For 2025, the school achieved an attainment 8 figure of 40.56

  • 11% of our cohort were entered into the English Baccalaureate. 8% of students achieved a standard pass (grade 4 or higher) and 6% of students achieved a strong pass (grade 5 or higher) in English, mathematics, geography/history and French. Our Ebacc APS was 3.39.

94% of our cohort remained in education or training after Key Stage 4.

 

2024 Key Stage 5 Results

This year we had 22 students complete Tech Level qualifications, with an average grade of Distinction and APS of 38.57.  Our APS score for A Level was 29.44 and for Applied General subjects was 28.68

Ober 90 A Level subject examinations were sat in the summer with over 36% achieving a B grade or higher and an overall average grade of C for these qualifications. We had 2 students achieved an A* in Maths and Sociology respectively and a further 7 students achieve A grades.

For the Applied General subjects, we had over 110 entries. Of these, 55 were either a Distinction / B grade or higher.

WE were particularly pleased with our performance in Finance, achieving a Value Added score of +0.47.  Our Child Development department also performed strongly in the technical qualifications, achieving an average grade of Distinction* and APS of 36.67.  Our Year 12s also had a strong year, achieving Value Added of +0.97 in AS Maths.

57% of our Year 13 cohort accepted a place at university (inc. University of Exeter, University of Leeds and Queen Mary’s London, amongst many others) and were able to continue their educational journey on the back of successful results in the summer.

For our GCSE resits, 53% of our cohort achieved a grade 4 or higher for English, compared to 21% nationally (2024), and 60% improved on their previous grade with a progress rate of 0.44. For mathematics, 28% of our cohort achieved a grade 4 compared to 17% nationally and a progress rate of 0.5.
